Microsoft should make SP2 available to all users and backport the changes to older operating systems, or they risk putting profits ahead of security yet again.

Worms are a problem to the internet infrastructure. Insecure Windows XP is a problem not only to itself but to ours. In order to protect legal customers, microsoft must also protect non-customers.
Also important, but not as geat perhaps:
1: There are legal copies with pirated keys. Why? Because it was easier to find that key when the guy reinstalled.
2: The "is pirated" check may be flawed. Some antivirus tools don't check at all in order to avoid breaking things. Would be pretty stupid to have a check that would potentionally leave 0.0001% of the legal customers unsafe, wouldn't it?
3: The next big worm may start changing some percentage of the victims to have known bad keys. Suddenly a worm makes the system unpatchable.
