Microsoft should make SP2 available to all users and backport the changes to older operating systems, or they risk putting profits ahead of security yet again.

As all of you are perfectly aware, the internet is a vast web, where everyone is connected to (almost) everyone.
Statistically seen, not every computer running MS Windows gets patched. They do not get patched for all the different reasons.
Maybe they are unable to upgrade to Windows XP. The financial sector comes to mind, where some obscured Bank Group standard sets usage of Windows 2000.
Maybe for some large company, upgrading a network of 2000+ computers to XP is not a trivial task.
Maybe all the different small reasons.
Those unpatched and maybe pirated windows still get infected with all the stuff you, people around here, are too familiar with.
In my (and not only mine) opinion, the potentially worst thing about it is, that those machines are becoming a threat to everyone. Generating a lot of unwanted traffic, infecting more and more people...
As columnist pointed out, Microsoft seems to be going for profit more, than for everything else.
I believe, is that if SP2 is half-secure as it claims to be, backporting fixes and releasing SP2 to everyone, Microsoft would make all of Internet a much safer place. And it would make a good PR.
They certainly have the financial reserver to do so...
