As if the common use of "web bugs" inside spam was not enough, companies are using new techniques to watch and track the private emails you read, forward, print, and more.

Case scenario for the group...
The holiday season just passed so hopefully some of you can relate:
I go on Amazon.com, purchase a gift and send it via UPS to my friend across the country. According to UPS the gift SHOULD arrive 2 days later. But no one signs for it. No one tracks it. I really have no idea if the gift arrived or not.
Should I be upset that I have NO IDEA what happened to my gift...
or just accept it that if I tracked it and /or if my friend signed for it, it would ACTUALLY be a violation of some Privacy laws according to the argument posed by the author of this article?
I think your real story should be about ABUSERS of html email (like SPAMMERS, etc.) , not html email and their tracking capabilities.
I'm a business man. My goal is to sell you something. I want to know if you received the package of information I sent you.
Do I call you? (oh wait! that may be a violation of privacy laws because it MIGHT be an unsolicited call because)
Do I track you via UPS, FedEx, or the Internet? (Oh crap! That may be a violation of the privacy laws too!)
So, I'm asking the group here...how do I know if someone received something without it being a true "violation" of their privacy?
