It's nice that this columnist thinks ISV's and the programmers working for them are responsible for fixing up the mistakes of Microsoft.
As a programmer I'd rather spend my time learning Linux than cleaning up broken windows.
There are so many cool cross-platform applications and technologies on offer it's amazing! Not only the apps but the communities behind them are great...But I guess we have Microsoft to thank for driving people to create them in the first place.
If your going to ask your IT people to do some research, ask them to check out Firefox, Thunderbird, Sunbird, Chatzilla, Eclipse, Azureus, PHP, Apache and Subversion on both Linux and Windows. I'm finding the experience most enjoyable! Just a few more breathes of fresh air and the umbilical cord can be severed.
