While I think we as security professionals should reserve judgement on the effectiveness of this service pack until the full consequences of it are known. I don't see any problem with Tim's view that everyone should seriously work at resolving any risks to it's widespread deployment. And I certainly don't see him as a vendor apologist or a mouthpiece for vendor hype.

Whether this is an anomaly (Microsoft breaking applications in favour of security) or the first steps in a significant change will depend largely on the public response that MS receives on this trial run.

In the mean time I will continue to run Linux or BSD when I have a choice.
