Why? Simply because you trust a protocol which you do not understand (ssh is allready tapable 'by design'). You have to use a 9600+ key to be relatively secure (and that's almost impossible).
2nd, those cheap VPN solutions might not be secure at all.
and the worst thing is that the hackers/crackers will not be able to overcome very easy this problem just because you need a genial mathematical brain to implement a new and "unbreakable" encryption. same with the open source.
anyway after the recent (after 11.09) politics about "security" and privacy I'm totally convinced that your great country is going down straigh "to hell"
