Infected In Twenty Minutes
Scott Granneman, 2004-08-19

What normally happens within twenty minutes? That's how long your average unprotected PC running Windows XP, fresh out of the box, will last once it's connected to the Internet.

I think your right that they would happy with thier linux install. But I must say that as user of several OSs I think this is more of a traffic issue. How can a machine thats been infected with a worm remain on the internet? Why won't the ISP detect and shutdown the customers of these machines? I realize there are large networks that may only have one machine infected, but shut the whole customer down until they take responsibility. As long as the worm is still floating around it poses a threat to new machines and eats up resources on every machine it tries to infect. I applaude all the OSs vendors for taking steps to secure the system through the update process, but I think the real issue is why they are alone this is not just an OS issue.
