What normally happens within twenty minutes? That's how long your average unprotected PC running Windows XP, fresh out of the box, will last once it's connected to the Internet.

"Are you an expert on how your car runs? Do you have mechanics telling you that because you dont know exactly how your engine works you should'nt be on the roads? This article does backflips - you are offering solutions on how users should be on the net, yet you suggest that they should'nt be on the net anyway due to lack of knowledge."
I've seen a number of folks giving a similar response to this portion of the article. Try re-reading what he says before you post an arguement. He doesn't say "NO ACCESS TO THE NET" he says "unfettered" access. Unfettered means unrestricted. This is a perfectly reasonable position to take given most users have little understanding on security issues with home PCs. Using your car analogy, you would expect the airbag system on your vehicle to be "on" when you took the car off the lot. Most folks would not be happy to find out AFTER they get into a wreck that "oh, I should have turned that on."
