Don Parker, 2004-11-04

The cost of providing security training to your staff may be high, but what is the cost of not providing any training at all?

I've provided Windows incident response training...I come on-site, and provide two days of intensive, hands-on training for IT managers and admins. I focus specifically on verifying, identifying, and resolving incidents on Windows systems. I can easily train between 16 and 24 people for the cost of sending 2 people off-site to SANS.

At the end of the two days, the attendees not only have tools, techniques and methodologies that they can use right away, but they've actually had to "respond" to incidents. In one case, while I was teaching the course, an attendee responded to a real incident over the lunch break, using the very tools and techniques we'd just gone over.

The fact is, the training is out there. IT managers need to recognize the need for the skill sets.
