Don Parker, 2004-11-04

The cost of providing security training to your staff may be high, but what is the cost of not providing any training at all?

Excellent article.

My employer is one those that likes to drop in a new appliance and "learn on the job". Wasn't until one customer forked over money for a "sandbox" environment. It's not much, but for me, it was fantastic. Even though, I had no former training on Nokia IP appliances, a couple hours a week after work in the "sandbox" and I learned IPSO & the hardware.

I think if I gotten formal training I could done this right from the beginning rather than learning the "right way" in the "sandbox" and then going back and fixing all the stuff that was implemented before.

The sad reality is that I think this trend will continue (at least at my company) for the forseeable future.
