I don't see the point that privacy advocates make about thumb prints. Companies ask for my social security number all the time. The databases those companies store that information in are often vulnerable. Before I know it I see that I've bought a mini van in Texas on my credit report.
The current systems are not safe. Biometric systems, as stated in this article, compare mathmatical standards to your thumb print or iris. It does not store information, it checks for a solution to a math problem based in your print. I would much rather know that someone has to cut my thumb off to get in my bank account then run some scripted SQL hack and have access to all my finances.
