Kelly Martin, 2005-02-17

There's more innovation coming from today's virus writers than from the big software companes whose core goals are to progress and innovate.

The arguments presented by the author are compelling. However, they seem to be valid only for the Wintel platform.

Microsoft has introduced complexity in its products to impede competition. This has nothing to do with computer science. It's similar to a drug lord rigging his competitors with bullets.

On the other hand, the people who work on non-Wintel platforms use complex methods to implement theories put forth by scientists. Generally, this doesn't result in an unpleasant experience for end users and doesn't kill innovation.
