I have vividly heard Mr.'X' got to their 'local test center' with the name of Mr.'Y' and take the EXAM. Mr.'Y' pays Mr.'X' for his job..... and no doubt Mr.'Y' is certified even without turning a page. That's what I call PROSTITUTION OF KNOWLEDGE. There is no further questions asked or verification done to assure Mr.'X' is the real Mr.'X' who is taking the exam for HIMSELF not with a false name.
Moreover, I'd love to call.... RHCE == R.H.C.Amature
RHCE curriculum is very incomplete! ---the curriculum assumes, you to be a RH newbie who knows nothing about the architecture and is designed to cover from the very(possible) basics. This occupies half of the curriculum. And when they should be focusing more to create good standards(in the Network Services & Security Administration part...) the certification JUST* demands VERY basic overall knowledge about Network Services (Apache, Squid, DNS etc...) It barely covers the part for good implementation, deploying solutions & tackling problems in in the real* world. Moreover... the last part, Security Administration is also 50% very newbie*.
But to my surprise, I was stunned to see... some well respected site had its skill level rating as High. while MCSE as average. Is it like, knowing to administrator a server via console a makes you more geeky?
...back then, when I spoke to a group of fresh RHCE holders(All of them already CCNA before RHCE) ...more than half of them knew NOTHING about patch management & for some that wasn't in their priority list. The only one who kinda cared were people who were already working on some business for few years & that's reality.
The current trend in my part of the globe is: getting certifications for MCSE, CCNA, RHCE is a fashion among CS students & most of them have work experience ZERO. So no wonder, the companies will most-likely certify more book worms THAN professionals.
