I do think that the decision to drop the practical was hasty without their new testing methodology in place, but I think you should have spoken to someone within SANS/GIAC before comparing them to notorious paper-CERTs. SANS/GIAC is an excellent organization with great training, and I have no doubt that they have the same concerns as most individuals when the decision was to move from the practical exam. In fact, the original announcement shocked me as currently hold the GCFW, GCIH, GGSC, and am working an additional certification and certificate. I recommend that you sit back and wait for the next testing methodology to be put into place over the following months before you do anymore complaining. I guarantee it was a tough decision for them, and they do not want to see their certifications lose value.
