The one issue with the practical is how it was graded. SANS admitted to inconsistencies between graders and reevaluated the program. That in and of itself, reduced the value of the graded practical. By removing a faulty process from the mix, they have not reduced the value of the process, they have, in fact, protected it from further loss of value, and of course a loss of revenue cause by the exodus of potential students.

I had a friend who had his test kicked back because of foot noting, the comment was they didn't like the way he did it, not that is was incorrect or incomplete. How trivial.

Unfortunately, many see the certification as a cash COW for SANS.

While the training is good, the cost is too high and the ROI is not worth the effort.

Lets face it, how many of the hackers we security professional track have certifications.
