Microsoft's release of Windows 2003 Service Pack 1 last week is loaded with security enhancements, and it's a big step in the right direction.

I had installed Service Pack1 for Windows Server 2003 on the very first day Microsoft released it. It took a while to download and install it, but it was fine... no complain as its a big chunk of data. After installation it asked for reboot. Soon as it was rebooted, i could see at least about 12 new processes running in the background. Performance of Network traffic as well as internet traffic was down by at least 90%. Very soon started getting complains that server response latency has increased in many folds. Very soon after reboot, so many worms and spywares started attacking but thanks to other commercial softwares, they could not get through (hopefully). Conditions worsen, as every browser instance now was acting as a server. Ultimately I uninstalled service pack1 and things were back to normal. So I would suggest that spend enough time for testing the SP1 and then only install on the network.
