Mark Burnett, 2005-04-05

Microsoft's release of Windows 2003 Service Pack 1 last week is loaded with security enhancements, and it's a big step in the right direction.

I'm no fan of M$ or Symantec because large
companies seem to ignore the little guy
(home user and/or samll business).

But my limited experience (about a week or so) with this product gets high marks.

To fully test all the features in this
Server Enterprise Flagship (and third
party software) may take six months or
even longer.

Configured as more of a workstation, using an alternative browser, firewalls and av utilities, works suprisingly well.

As far as basic disaster recovery (and cloning fail-over bootable "C" drives) Dos
Ghost works well. More details are
at 10gsuperman.blogspot.com and some URLS
pointing to documents for download.

To see I.E. locked down on the admin account indicates that M$ thinking is now in sync with security awareness and best practices.
