Given that you use the Microsoft platform you do have good reason to believe that you are potentially vulnerable to a random attack and that you should take all measures possible to eliminate that risk.
The extent to which you have gone is more a reflection of your skill and interest in the subject, rather than a measure of your fear of exploitation.
My experience is that those who call others paranoid are generally, lazy and unskilled, in the area of IT &or security. Often it is middle management who are more interested in optimising their path up the corporate ladder, rather than meeting their responsibilities to the corporation. i.e. they will sacrifice security (and undermine others efforts) because recognising it's importance will highlight there incompetence and laziness.
I have even seen this self serving attitude have a potential impact on national security. Interestingly some of the specific individuals I have in mind were not citizens of the nation who's security was undermined.
Security is your profession, and you are a master of it, be proud of your skills and dedication. File your detractors under "wetware security risk".
