I hate giving you free reign but after your explanations on 1, 6, 14 and 18, you gained quite a buffer zone. You moved from 42% to 24%.
But don't forget that according to Eisntein speed is more important than location when observing a phenomena (i just made that up). The warning being that, if you're becoming more paranoid too fast, you may not be able to slow down fast enough before you cross the line. A beautiful mind should not go to waste.
If you do your work at home on the same laptop that you use on your travels, then a lot of the noia is justified. But you did mention "PC's turned around", which seems to exclude laptops cause you can always see their back. Did you mean your kid's computers? That would drag you back.
But I still have the same feelings about extra-long passwords and I hope your book can explain the reason behind it. Is this whole thing a ploy to sell your book...? :
Also being so involved with Microsoft gives you probably another 5% of reason to be more paranoid than your industry colleagues. Heck I remember watching a bad movie about a wiz kid working for some huge software corporation where the founder bugged his bedroom, hired his girlfriend to spy on him, and killed some other programmer in the movie. That would explain your worries about them knowing your floor plan. But why did you mention terrafly instead of terraserver? uh? uh?
Finaly a word of advise on your domain name. There is a paronomasia in between Xato and a word that means boring in another language (yep I learned about paranomasia today).
So if I were you I would switch from cable and get that really fast SBC package that offers 5 fixed IP addresses and leave your family out of your network. They didn't hire you, so let them learn on their own. Otherwise they may characterize you as a xato and never pay attention to you anymore. Besides you can always trade cleaning their systems for them cleaning the hairs off that bush on the right side of your house...
This was a freebee from my own experience, no charge today ; ]
Thanks for the entertaining article.
