Kelly Martin, 2005-05-13

Microsoft's announcement that it will enter the AV market next year, with initial trials starting next week, could be a sign of many things to come.

What you say makes perfect sense. I'm a little surprised MS hasn't done this already. Sell an OS w/all the bells and whistles for $250 and charge $100 a year for contiuous updates. Sell a lessor version of the OS and still charge outh the wazoo for updates.

I can see it now:

xp pro secure . . $500 . . recurring $100
xp home secure . . 300 . . . . . . . .100
xp starter . . . . 150 . . . . . . . . 75
xp media pro secure 750 . . . . . . . 150
xp media home . . .500 . . . . . . . .100

etc. . . . .

What a racket.
