1. Microsoft subscription licensing will give more companies the incentive they need to switch to more cost-effective software such as open source products -- particularly small and medium businesses, where the short-term cost of switching to another platform will be less than the long-term cost of Microsoft subscriptions.
2. A class of vulnerability from one vendor may affect all products from that vendor, wheras a more heterogeneous approach would provide additional barriers. Consider that when your OS and security software come from the same vendor. It may be more convenient, but when it breaks, everything will break at once.
