Are you maybe thinking of a different Marcus Ranum?? Maybe one of the cheap clones that are out there? Or are you just some anonymous coward spreading disinformation?
I don't post exploits. I've never even bothered researching exploits or penetration techniques (though I've stumbled on a few and gotten them quietly fixed) - go ahead and find a single vulnerability/exploit announcement with my name on it, I dare you. (you might find an ancient utmp/wtmp cleaner tool where I cleaned up one of my college buddies' code for him and stuck my name in the header, but that wasn't my code, I just made it readable)
As far as hanging out in the underground scene - do you count keynoting Black Hat Briefings in that category? ;) I think I went to 2 of the l0pht open houses but that hardly makes me a hacking scene whore.

Uhm, that's the biggest load of buls&it I've heard in a while. You must work for Gartner to be so good at talking nonsense. ;)
