Who's to blame?
Kelly Martin, 2005-07-05

If there's one thing the security industry is really good at, it's pointing fingers. We all like to say that, "security starts with you," so that everyone can share a piece of the mud pie. While we're pointing fingers, let's look at a few groups and individuals and see how they can share the blame for their own insecurity - and prevent the spread of viruses, Trojans and worms.

Yes, yes, yes... All of them to blame, but first of all - let's think! You've adviced to leave workstations on - and you're right! I'm not turning off my pc too. And even Windows OS can be secured if you just not to : display your messages as HTML with all the scripting stuff, use your PC without firewall and packet filter, leave your network logs without CONSTANT attention, install all the plugins/active-x/add-ons at will without a deceidion.... There's alot of traps you can be caught at in ANY OS, and there's equal count of 'em for all the OSes in the world. First and main person to blame - it's an end-user. Remember - abuse is a tax for your restlessness. You can use a spam-sponsoring ISP, but if you're not a spammer and you're making a good things with a thought and good deceidion - beleive me, you WON'T be affected by all the penalties to your ISP. Security begins not in a place where you'll find all the hi-end solutions, not in a place where you'll cut all the outbound network cables, but where you'll see a thought and awareness.
