They should either NOT put wireless networks in appliances or (especially) automobiles. Less secure would be an old-fashioned mechanical switch-- NOT software, and not buried in some chip -- to turn it on (since it should be OFF by default). Diagnostics can be done with temporary wired connections to networks if desired.

A DoS attack on refrigerators would be bad enough, but a DoS attack on automobiles could literally be quite deadly.
