If there's one thing I've learned in the past few years as editor of SecurityFocus, it's that there is absolutely no saving grace in the security world. Everyone is a target, everyone is vulnerable and exposed, and no one is safe from, well... anything.

People are not lemmings that you can exploit at will and they don't care. People are just like you and I and have a right to be respected. Yes, people do stupid things and don't take the time to educate themselves about their own personal security. That does not give anyone the right to openly exploit them or take *anything* that belongs to them.
Online stealing is no different, other than the impersonal placement of a display, than walking up to someone and taking what belongs to them. The government can always do more, but it isn't solely their responsibility. The responsibility lies with the individuals who act to take what doesn't belong to them. The responsibility lies with the security community to do what we do to protect those that don't know any better. The responsibility lies with the ISP's to implement basic security controls to protect their customers. The responsibility lies with the end user to actually learn what to do to protect themselves. And the responsibility lies with software companies to develop more secure software.
