With camera and network surveillance now commonplace, and database abuse continuing to appear, how do we balance the positive side of security along with its potential for abuse?

Have you seen an "Equilibrium" movie? If you haven't - I strongly recommend you to do so. Because theese facts are the very beginning of a system, that is shown at that movie. We are the creators of our own Haven an at the same moment we're our own executors in Hell... I think we should spli the worlds - real and virtual. And define a HARD limits of legal intrusion in our personal life by WHATEVER reason it's done for. People are people - and that fact has no dependecy on the goverments' opinion about it. We should't live in a gloomy suburbs, of course - but not under the Big Brother's eye too. Rational ballance must be defined as soon as possible.
