Balancing surveillance
Scott Granneman, 2005-11-01

With camera and network surveillance now commonplace, and database abuse continuing to appear, how do we balance the positive side of security along with its potential for abuse?

Privacy? I never herd of it, at least in western countries .
I think it is absurd that we have pass ports. If you wanted to avoid
"Big Brother", then you are to late. Everything is already in place, all that is needed
is the infrastructure. I do not mind, "Big Brother". The problem is the system
that big brother operates within, democracy will lead to abuses.

The solution, humans should not police humans, this system leads to abuse and allegations.
The task of police should be given to software, and the human police should only be used
for physical force. I rather have a system in place to handle "Big Brother", than to have
a system ran by the majority that is not ready to handle, "Big Brother". To think we can
some how prevent the inevitable, "Big Brother" is short sided. I view freedom(democracy)
as a cone, in the beginning it is open and free, but as time goes by,freedom becomes restricted.
Yes, it scares me, with all the laws we have, that are not enforced, to become enforced
over night would be incredible, maybe we should limit the laws, and have software recognize
the "illegal actions",maybe we could have a good "Big Brother", but then again the west
does not act until it is to late. There will be abuses until we realize that "Big Brother" is
coming and there is no avoiding it. Till then, we are all at the mercy of the watcher.

Morality is based on the intent, with no general intent, morality is based on the
individual intent.

Would you prefer to be watched by a human, or software?
