That may be fine for the few people in the world that don't use the web for their job, but as a software developer, I would not be able to get my job done without the web. There would be no way you could white list all the possible places I can find useful information. You people can't see any need beyond your own little world. It's the "If if doesn't affect me, who cares!" syndrome.
"why have a sound card in 95% of work computers"
I work in an evironment of 150 cubicles, if I couldn't put on my headphones and block out the noise with music, I would never get anything done. However, I would be fine with you taking away my sound card if you would just provide me with an office.
No matter what you bring up as not being needed to perform a job, somebody out there needs it. That's whay blanket solutions like this just don't work.
