Zero-day holiday
Kelly Martin, 2006-01-04

A few hundred million Windows XP machines lay vulnerable on the Web today, a week after a zero-day exploit was discovered. Meanwhile, new approaches and ideas from the academic world - that focus exclusively on children - may give us hope for the future after all.

I'm sorry, but to state that the laptops of 3rd world children won't be attacked just because they belong to 3rd world children is unbelievably naive. Are you aware of the existence and worldwide reach of child porn networks? There are people who think nothing of baiting/kidnapping/buying children, or even using their own biological offspring, to produce child porn and profit by its sale. If people are willing to do that, just for money, then there are certainly people who would think nothing of attacking kids' p.c.'s. Sorry to bust your rose colored bubble, but some people are purely and simply evil, without conscience, remorse, guilt, or a basic sense of right and wrong. Some people are scum, far too many really, and they will always be with us. You say you'd hate to meet one? Chances are, you already have but just didn't know it.

Or, to take a more mundane example, I work for an auditor's office. There would be no need for auditors if people were basically good and law abiding. Think about it.

What happy pill did you take, btw? I think I might like to try one...
