Tech support woes
Scott Granneman, 2006-01-20

Technical support that's outsourced to foreign countries can cause frustration and have a negative impact on security when the problems remain unsolved.

I agree entirely, I spent the better part of five hours on the phone with Dell support going along with some mindless script that some bean counter dreamed up. I finally gave up and explained that I know what I am doing and that this part was not functioning as designed. They then agreed to overnight a new one to my post office box, how many folks in this country don't know you can't ship fedex or ups to a post box. It took a week to arrange to get the address corrected and two weeks to receive the part. I think that a list ought to be circulated around with who has non english speaking tech support and the computer buying public can decide to not patronize them. With tech support, its no longer a matter of if you will need, it is when. I am not going to buy another Dell until they change thier ways. There are folks that speak better poor english in this country that need jobs and enjoy yakking on the phone all day. Why go out and look for strangers.
