The problem is that I can't buy a CD of Madonna* from a different record company.
If the car industry will limit all cars to 80 mph, and you don't have a choise, then there will be still a lot of people buying cars and only a few will go with public transport.
The options I have now are to buy non-drm (indie) music of a Madonna-like artist. Buy second hand. Or download.
I'm moving now more to buying indie music. I also download music and if I like it I buy the Second hand cd's.
*note: I don't like music of Madonna, this is just an example.
