When I bought my first record album back in the 60s it consisting of a printed paper folder and inside there was a plastic thing called a long playing record. I probably copied the music from that record onto my reel to reel tape recorder so that I could play the music without wearing out the plastic LP. I have fair use rights to that music since I purchased it. Lots of records I bought in the 60s have now been replaced by CDs that re-issued the music in this new media. In a sense I purchased licenses for the same music twice. Shame on me. Granted there are copyrights on the printed material too, but who cares about the printed artwork that comes with CDs anyway. The point is - since I already purchased the "music" am I not entitled to have it from any form of media thereafter? Certainly, one cannot regard that the media itself is what is copyrighted.
