Forensic felonies
Mark Rasch, 2006-04-24

A new law in Georgia on private investigators now extends to computer forensics and computer incident response, meaning that forensics experts who testify in court without a PI license may be committing a felony.

Mark, in this article, has unfortunately not addressed the existing "certifications" by leading international forensic organizations, which require an enormous combination of training, testing and documented experience. Requiring a PI license appears to me to be another government method of collecting additional taxes AND assisting PI organizations in their attempts to collect their fees and grow as well. The article also failed to address exclusions for civilian contract personnel working for government entities, as well as many other exclusions that would seem appropriate, such as us that retired from government having performed years of forensics in the local, state and federal public sectors. The judge (court) is and should remain the body which determines WHO and WHAT is an expert witness!
