It is very true that if everyone would first check where the emails came from, blocked abusing emails from senders, wouldn't use any of the links that they may receive etc etc - spam would be minimal (but still there).
Also yes there are many encryption methods and styles and some of the email products already use these.
The problem is that this is NOT AUTOMATED. 80% of the internet population are not power users and do not know or want to action everything themselves. What we need is an automated way for this.
I believe this is what Kelly Martin was trying to imply. Let's remove all the manual work out of encyption and authentication and digital certificates and demand a product with automated ways to do this. ie: A closed, secure environment where the true identity is known in real-time via security checks.
imagine a new email product that automatically does everything for you, it would be a huge hit on the market.
You need to remember - not everyone is a power user and automation is the way of the future to protect us from ... ourself's.
