You're absolutely right, Scott, and I think it's worth emphasising the positive side of these social web sites too. My daughter's have richer social lives than I ever did as a teen, they communicate intensively using the 'net, as well as their own phones, and they are more mature and streetwise because of it. We should perhaps trust our children more!
