A recent lawsuit filed against Microsoft should have all companies reexamining their privacy policies to determine what information they are actually collecting about customers, and what they can possibly do with it.

...and you got harassed by Product Activation after your reinstall, I suppose. This isn't WGA, this is WPA, and Rasch repeatedly confuses the two in his piece.
It seems you have, as well. And how is WPA supposed to know, after you tore down your system and rebuilt or from scratch, that you didn't just install it on a second PC? This was a problem since 2002. Why is it getting so much press now?
Here's a solution for your upgrade to RAID problem: Load your RAID drivers on your system (you can load drivers for hardware you don't have yet with the Add New Hardware wizard), make an image (insert obligatory plug for Norton Ghost here), restore the image on your RAID array. No reinstall needed, and unless a lot more's changed than the addition of a RAID controller, no reactivation required.
As for your experience with the WPA person on the phone, I haven't experienced that yet but others have reported that some operators are more hostile than others. Calling the same number back usually gets a more reasonable operator the second time.
This sounds more like a customer service problem MS needs to solve which has nothing to do with WGA itself.
