The English historian Arnold Toynbee outlined the formula for classical Greek tragedy: koros (success or surfeit), hubris (sometimes translated as overweening pride), and ate (disaster and always a very ugly disaster). He also tried to demonstrate how he thought that formula worked in the history of civilizations. Interesting. --Jim
