Christmas Shopping: Vista Over XP?
Federico Biancuzzi, 2006-12-05

Microsoft has announced Vista's release dates. From a security standpoint what choice should consumers take during this Christmas shopping season? Most will be faced with Windows XP only or Windows XP with Microsoft's Express Upgrade option to Vista. Federico Biancuzzi interviewed a wide range of security researchers and anti-virus folks to get some consensus on the security of Vista over Windows XP for consumers, with some advice for corporate users as well.

Operating system is not just for technical experts. Most of the PCs used are by Kids, students, house-wives (tell my wife not to wrte the password on a paper and stick it to comp, she will write it in a notefile on computer) Old people at home... If u are not tech-savy at work,... u have a network administrator to fall back on and rely to make ur system secure.
For a layman (like my Uncle who clicks on all offers and links ... beleive me I have tried) I would prefer Mac OS X or a recompiled version of UNIX, (which he currently has), so he stays secure and gets what he wants. Microsoft can go to the companies (anyway I guess it only survives on office and related) and let the average user know that THEY SHOULD UNDERSTAND THE OS TO SECURE IT.
