The New Vista Waiting Game
Kelly Martin, 2007-01-30

Vista is a step forward in security, but many businesses will be stuck with Windows XP for years to come, due to the cost of upgrading, the value of existing assets, and compatibility issues that trump security features.

My customers aren't migrating because of compatibility issues it is true. But I argue about the "enhanced security" in my world where users lose their passwords on a consistent basis features like bitlocker only succeed in ensuring my customers can't get at their own data. Add to that the fact that UAC is nothing short of highly annoying making the OS look like it cries wolf 100 times a minute and not too many of them are willing to touch it with a 10 foot pole. We'll see how it goes and if we can work out some of the basic implementation details and ensure life of business application compatibility we'll start to sell the product in 6 to 8 months. We won't be doing anything with the product until then.
