Substitute teacher Julie Amero faces up to 40 years in prison for exposing kids to porn using a classroom computer, but the facts strongly suggest that she was wrongfully convicted. Many issues remain, from the need for an independent computer forensics investigation and the presence of spyware and adware on the machine, to bad or incomplete legal work on both sides of this criminal case.

I just read a very disturbing blog by Daniel Axelrod at:

http://bulletineducationblog.blogspot.com/

This guy has no knowledge of computers but plenty of self-righteous ignorant judgment. Why he is allowed to do a blog on education speaks to the state of things in Norwich. By the way, how close is Norwich, CT from Salem, MA? I thought the witch trials were over. This fool is convinced that the ComputerCop software shows that the links were clicked on, despite testimony from the maker that it doesn't.

He also claims that anyone can shut down a computer, and hence that is why Amero deserves 40 years. Well Dan, ask your Mother to shut off a computer. Or someone else's mother. You will see frantic desperation, an unwillingness to mess things up, a fear of hitting the wrong button, an inability to find the button, and other similar reactions.

What is sad about this is that after years of trying, 40-year old Ms Amero finally was pregnant, but after her arrest, the stress caused her to loose the baby. That baby's death is clearly on the hands of Daniel Axelrod, the police, the prosecutor, and the incompetent judge.
