Time for a new certification
Don Parker, 2007-05-01

I wrote a column for Securityfocus some time ago that aired my concerns over GIAC dropping the practical portion of their certification process. That column resulted in a lot of feedback, with most agreeing about how GIAC bungled what was up till then, the best certification around.

Time for a new certification - It is already existing from Orchidseven! 2007-05-19

Well, have you ever checked out certifications from a lesser but well respected company - Orchidseven? It has been around for a few years now, and the standards are EXACTLY based on what you have written... They had this "silver" and "gold" exam concept from long back. Here check this (Gold - LAB exam certification):

Hour 1 - Forensic Analysis - 150 credits
Hour 2 - Penetration Testing - 300 credits
Hour 3 - Reverse Engineering Challenge - 200 credits
10 minutes - Viva - 100 credits
Thesis / Research Work- 250 credits
--Passing Criteria- 750 credits

http://www.orchidseven.com/certifications/goldexam.html

They have a rigorous process and requires an active research of one month independently before one can get certified in Hacking / Forensics / Secure coding or reverse engineering.

I hope this information helps you and shows that there is still quality left around.
