I wrote a column for Securityfocus some time ago that aired my concerns over GIAC dropping the practical portion of their certification process. That column resulted in a lot of feedback, with most agreeing about how GIAC bungled what was up till then, the best certification around.

Would be good only for someone performing forensic and incidents response but totally useless for auditors,application security folks, encryption folks, etc.

while i agree that dumping the practical was stupid, i believe different certification fit different people.

with CISA + CISSP and one or two technical cert, you cant go wrong.
