Some autos have anti-theft systems, but they are not required by law. I can not sue an auto maker if my car was stolen when I didn't have an anti-theft system (you wouldn't even have a case if you had an anti-theft system). The models that have been chosen to include anti-theft systems offer more to the consumer, but the manufacturer has no liability. The CONSUMER gets to choose his security. The MANUFACTURER is not responsible.
If you don't have the ability to secure your own server/network then you should seriously consider your level of exposure to outside.
If everyone was to take your advice, we would have a lot of rich(er) lawyers and a lot less software to choose from. Talk about swamping the courts! This article reflects a very ludicrous opinion, and I'm surprised SecurityFocus actually chose to publish it.
I'm very disappointed.
