The analogy is very good and intuitive (Cars, Computers), however it is quite flawed. For one thing, when there are computer security breaches no one dies. I've never heard of a case (I could be wrong) of people dying over a computer security issue. A lot of business lose money and are incoveinenced for a period of time (depending on how well their IT staff was prepared).However, when cars are unsafe, people die.

So, good luck on getting the computer industry to be liable for poor software products in the near future. Average Joe consumer doesn't care. The only people that have a shot at changing the current status quo are the major volume buyers. The laws will get changed with some crazy unforeseen court case that turns the industry upside down and forces them to be liable for their half-a$$ products. Until then, keep preaching to the choir. :)
