The Boston Trio and the MBTA

The annual DEFCON conference in Las Vegas in early August got a bit more interesting than usual when three graduate students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology were enjoined from giving a presentation by a Court in Boston.

It's not an exact parallel, but this makes me think of the voting machine scandals back in the last presidential election.

Once again, a contractor has put out a "public infrastructure" system that that is exploitable for gain by third parties at the expense of the public.

What do the politocos do? Do they try to fix it? Do they hold the contractor liable? No, they evade the issue and blame the messenger. And by using the TRO, they're trying to stop the breach using "security by obscurity". That won't last long.

It's just a lot of history repeating ...
