In the early 90's, I attended an academic conference in Hawaii. At one presentation, a colleague from the University of California at Berkeley whom I'll refer to as "the supervisor," told a story of young hackers, who he referred to as the Urchins.

This kid doesn't deserve to have the book thrown at him, but he does deserve to be prosecuted for the offense.
Those of you in the business need to realize that siding with this kind of behavior doesn't make for a good reputation with the rest of industry.
