Many of the terms-of-service agreements that I have seen in my internet travels are just plain stupid, and yet, internet users accept the terms. One I recently read, which had to be accepted in order to gain free limited membership, which could then be upgraded for a fee for expanded membership benefits (like more online data storage, more web pages for your web site, more e-mails, etc.) required that one agree that any data, pictures, text, comments, and so on, became the property of the web site provider. So while I wanted to share with those users of like subject interest, information I had developed over several years of effort, I could not do so because I did not want to forfeit my right of data ownership to the host who had contributed nothing to its development. So I saw that terms-of-service agreement as a hindrance to information exchange, which is contrary to what I think the internet is about. The idea that anything can be put into a terms-of-service agreement and later be grounds for legal actions is plain silly.
