Celebrity Viruses Improve Security

Every so often, a computer virus becomes more than just a novelty for anti-virus researchers and moves into the consciousness of the mass media, even if it's not a grave threat.

DownAdUp isn't another 'Love Letter', it's a very sophisticated piece of software that contains latest technology like md-6, check http://mtc.sri.com/Conficker/addendumC/ for an inside analysis.

Sure you're right, awareness has risen so far, and the threat that botnets mean are easily shown by the vast amount of spams everyone receives nowadays, and those are (imho) the more harmless part of the bots, considering what can be done with an army of drones listening to a destructive mind.

But in the end, those who mostly have to clean systems up are people with mediocre or advanced computer knowledge, who know how to deal with this matter or can give their clients a solution to get it done. But, as far of now, they're the minority, and still most (real and bogus) antivirus manufacturers are imho a bit more for the money than for a security solution.
