Buffer overflows can be eliminated quite simply by coding your servers in Java (or C# w/o unsafe mode). Everybody talks about Java in terms of mobile code, which is a very hard problem. However the server overflow bugs that are reported every week are simply IMPOSSIBLE TO CODE in modern languages. C was developed in the mid 70's. When we switched from assembler to C, scores of common bugs disappeared overnight. Perhaps the new century is time to begin using a modern language.
