Good security practices do not have to limit people's freedoms or invade their privacy. No one's freedom would be limited, for example, by eliminating buffer overflow bugs in software.

Your other suggestion shows an ignorance of human nature. It's like suggesting that if we educated people properly, we wouldn't need locks on our doors.
